One click trading

A setting rather than an order type. With it switched on, a single click on a price sends a market order immediately, taking its instrument from the chart or quote row that was clicked, its direction from which side was clicked, and its size from whatever value the panel is currently carrying. With it switched off, the same click opens a ticket that has to be reviewed and submitted.

What changes is the confirmation step and nothing else. The order that leaves the platform is an ordinary market order with the same execution behaviour, the same exposure to slippage and the same deviation controls as one sent from a ticket. Platforms typically require a separate acknowledgement before the mode can be enabled, because a confirmation dialogue is a stated control and switching it off is a decision the firm records.

The failure mode is size rather than direction. The volume field carries over from the last order sent, so a click made on the assumption of one size executes at another, and there is no dialogue in which the discrepancy would have been visible. The second point is that in this mode a chart or a depth ladder stops being a display and becomes a control surface, where a click intended to select something is an instruction. Practitioners disagree about how much the saved time is worth outside very short holding periods, since a fraction of a second is small next to the distance a price travels in an ordinary minute.
