Why we built on MetaTrader 5
Choosing a platform is choosing a set of constraints. Here is the reasoning behind ours.

1 min readA trading platform is not a neutral window onto a market. It decides what you can see, how quickly you can act, and what you can automate. Picking one is an architectural decision, and it is worth being explicit about why.
The case for a mature platform
MetaTrader 5 is not new, and that is most of the argument for it. It has an established language for automated strategies, a large body of existing work, and behaviour that experienced traders already understand. A platform nobody has to learn is a platform that gets out of the way.
- A strategy language with an existing community and existing code
- Analysis tools that do not need a separate subscription
- The same account and the same behaviour on desktop, web and mobile
What we did not choose, and why
Running several platforms in parallel spreads support, documentation and testing across surfaces that behave differently under load. We would rather one surface work properly than three work approximately.

What slippage actually measures
The difference between the price you asked for and the price you received has a name, a cause, and a set of conditions that make it larger or smaller.
